Conflict or "blood" diamonds are diamonds mined in war zones and used to fund violence,
further adding to the sufering of people in these regions. Conflict diamonds have the potential to damage the naturul allure and romanticism associated with diamonds.
The Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) is an international effort to rid the world of conflicarat diamonds.
The process was set up to ensure that diamond purchases were not financing violence by rebel movements and their allies seeking to undermine legitimate governments,
the issues included human rights, child labor, forced labor, and money laundering to fund terrorist acarativities.
